- away vs back

away = 집에서 떠나

  • We're going away on a trip today.

away = 어떤 장소, 사람으로부터 멀어져

  • The woman got into her car and drop away.
  • I tried to take a picture of the bird, it flew away.
  • I dropped the ticket and it blew away in the wind.
  • The police searched the house and took away a computer.

그 외에 표현 walk away / run away / look away

back = 집으로 돌아와

  • We'll be back in three weeks.

back = 어떤 장소, 사람에게로 돌아와

  • A: I'm going out now.
    B: What time will you be back?
  • After eating at a restaurant, we walked back to out hotel.
  • I've still got Gwankuk's keys. I forget to give them back to him.
  • When you're finished with that book, can you put it back on the shelf?

get away = 도망치다 ( escape )

  • We tried to catch the thief, but he managed to get away.

get away with something = 잘못을 저지르고는 그냥 가버리다

  • I parked in a no-parking zone, but i got away with it.

keep away ( from ... ) = 가까이 하지 않다, 피하다.

  • Keep away from the edge of the pool. You might fall in.

give*something away ( 다른 사람에게 ) 줘버리다.

  • A: Did you sell your old computer? B: No, I gave it away.

put something away = 치우다

  • When the children had finished playing with their toys, they put them away.

throw something away = 버리다

  • I kept the letter, but I threw away the envelope.

wave back / smile back / shout back / write back / hit somebody back

  • I waved to her and she waved back.

call/phone ( somebody ) back = 회신 전화를 하다

  • I can't to talk to you now, I'll call you back in 10 minutes.

get back to somebody = ( 전화 / 이메일 등 ) 답변을 하다

  • I sent him an e-mail, but he never got back to me.

look back ( on something ) = 돌이켜보다

  • My first job was a travel agency. I didn't like it very much at the time but, looking back on it, I learned a lot, and it was very useful experience.

pay back money / pay somebody back = 돈을 갚다

  • if you borrow money, you have to pay it back.
  • Thanks for lending me the money, I'll pay you back next week.
